New Zealand Online Casinos Booming

During the 2016/2017 period, Kiwi gamers spent more on casino gaming than they did in the previous year’s period. This is according to recent figures released by the country’s Department of Internal Affairs. The latest report reviewed the amount that New Zealanders spent on betting during the previous financial year and government has discovered that New Zealander’s wager, on average, around NZ$630 per person. While there are ups and downs within the industry, one thing’s for certain – New Zealand online casinos are booming.

Ups and Downs Around the Country and the Popularity of New Zealand Online Casinos

Something that’s really helped to boost the annual total was the increased interest in lotteries. If we look specifically at the numbers, lottery spending boosts almost 27 percent, while non-casino gaming machine expenditure also rose by just over three percent.
On the other end of the spectrum, sports betting and racing suffered an almost two percent drop in year-on-year takings, while casinos noted a 2.4 percent drop in activity. Yet, despite the unexpected drops for casino gaming and sports betting, the gaming industry in its entirety still raked in an approximate NZ$125 million during 2016/2017 and that’s just over 5 percent more than the previous year.

Overall, any upturn in New Zealand’s casino gaming industry is seen as a win. In one market update, CEO of SKYCITY Entertainment, Graeme Stephens, was reportedly positive about the future of his company and the industry as a whole, but also mentioned the difficult times it had faced in both Australia and New Zealand.
Stephens is reported to have said that despite ongoing disruption from capital works in both Adelaide and Auckland and a somewhat less favourable economic environment in New Zealand, he and his company remain confident that they can continue to deliver growth from their current assets along with new and upcoming projects.
Casinos Struggling to Attract Dedicated Players.

According to the country’s Department of Internal Affairs report, several New Zealand casinos have seen a massive fall in revenue, due, somewhat, to the average spend per player dropping from about NZ$160 to NZ$150.

The data further shows that the continued slowdown in international business has harmed the casino economy. Nevertheless, the casino industry remains pretty healthy. Especially when we look at the online casino industry. Kiwi players love their online pokies and table games. Also, with enticing sign up bonuses and regular promotions and loyalty programs, online casino operators are enjoying a boom in the industry as more and more New Zealanders sign up for both free and real money play and the chance to win some seriously amazing jackpots and progressive slot jackpots.

Overall, sales for the 2016/2017 period were driven by a variety of successful product changed which resulted in very enticing jackpots. And, with the growth of the internet, faster connections, and the ability to play casino games on mobile devices, along with the rise in live dealer games and virtual reality gaming, there’s no slowing down for this industry just yet.
