Which poker game types give you the best odds of winning?

Poker has well over 100 million fans worldwide and whether it’s played for fun with the family at home or at an online casino for fun and profit, it remains one of the most enjoyable and popular card games there is. The game can be played for free or at the very least for very small stakes from a desktop computer, laptop, mobile device or tablet and regardless of whether you’re an experienced player or have never played before, Poker is the type of game where you can simply dive in and play.

There are a plethora of Poker varieties, some are very well known and played all over the world and others are less common. Naturally, the most popular Poker games are the ones typically offered at online casinos, games like Texas Hold’em, Omaha, 7 Card Stud, Razz and 5 Card Draw. However, not all games have the same house edge, in other words, the statistical advantage the casino holds. The house edge is also known as the casino advantage or rather, how much each game pays out on average over its lifespan. The great thing about knowing each casino game’s house edge for the player means that it can be used as a guide as to which casino card game is potentially the most profitable. A general guide is that casino games with a high house edge pay less on average over time compared to those that have a lower house edge. Having this information at hand when deciding which casino games to play gives the player a massive advantage over the casino.

Three Card Poker

Without any edge at all, online casinos wouldn’t be able to stay open and cover the costs of running the games. To put house edge into perspective, we’ll assume that a particular slot game has a house edge of 10%, meaning that the casino expects the game to pay out 90% of wagers to players over the long-term. But this does not mean that players will lose 10% because if a player fed a slot game with $€100, he or she could either lose it all or hit the Jackpot, thereby win big. The edge is simply an average of the slot machine, and in this example, it means that the slot game is expected to make the casino 10% profits long term.

Slot machines have a house edge that can range from 2% up to 15%, depending on which game you play. Progressive jackpots are high-variance slots, meaning they have a huge house edge, and Video poker machines have the lowest house edge at between 0.5% – 3%.

If you’re ready to try an online Poker game with the lowest house edge, then why not try playing Three Card Poker? With a house edge of 1.5%, Three Card Poker is very easy to play, and best of all, with the low house edge, players stand a much better chance to win.

How To Play Three Card Poker

Three Card Poker is a modern day version of the traditional Poker game. It was invented by British Poker player Derek Webb. On one particular visit to Las Vegas, Webb declared that classic Poker was slow and boring and so he invented a variation of the popular card game. He called the new card game Brit-Brag or Casino Brag, but later changed the name to the simpler and more straightforward Three Card Poker.

Based very much on the game Stud Poker, Three Card Poker shares one principle rule of the game with Stud Poker, there can be no draw. Other differences between classic Poker is that there are more Flushes than Straights and although some Poker games played in Live Casinos offer extra bells and whistles in the form of side bets or progressive jackpots, there are only two main bets for Three Card Poker: Ante Bet and Pair Plus.

Three Card Poker is played with a 52-card pack at a special table on which the bets are placed and cards dealt. There are only two bets between the player and the dealer possible, Ante and Play. The other bet is Pair Plus, where the bet on the quality of the player’s hand is paid independently of what the dealer is dealt.

The goal of the game is to beat the dealer and if not playing against a dealer, then the bet is that your Three Card hand will be at least a pair or higher. If the player decides to bet against the dealer, their initial bet is called an Ante and if the player decides to wager that their Three Card hand will be at least a pair or higher, then the wager must be on the Pair Plus.

Let’s assume you wager on the Ante, in the next step you’ll be dealt three cards face down and after seeing what you’ve been dealt, there are only two options, Fold or continue betting by making a second wager equal to your Ante. If you happen to fold, the dealer will clear your cards but if you’ve decided to continue playing, the dealer will then show you his cards. For the player to win Ante and bet together, the dealer must have a qualifying hand of a Queen or better or else the player only wins the Ante.

After each player has decided either to fold or play, the dealer will face his cards and check whether it contains at least a queen or higher and if his hand “qualifies”, he will then face each player’s hand that’s still in the game. If the player’s hand has a higher Poker rank than the dealer, the player wins. However, if the dealer’s hand doesn’t contain at least a Queen or higher, the dealer will automatically pay each player that stayed in the game. Players that make an Ante wager are also eligible for a bonus payout that will be paid regardless of whether the dealer qualifies or whether your hand beats the dealer’s hand.
