Wildz Group’s Return to Finland: A New Era for Online Gaming in 2027

Finnish players know Wildz all too well. Yet, the company could never speak to players directly. And for years, Wildz Group served Finland from abroad. The group held a Malta license and operated in a legal grey area. That’s because Veikkaus had a total monopoly. They were the only ones legally allowed to market gambling in Finland. Offshore brands couldn’t target locals. Now that is about to change.

On October 15, 2026, Wildz Group announced a big step forward, claiming to be the first operator to receive a licence under Finland’s new gambling system. The licence is intended to take effect when the market opens on July 1, 2027. However, the announcement has not been officially confirmed yet.

So, what changes now? If officially confirmed, a familiar brand will finally play by new local rules. The group can finally connect directly with Finnish players. Local laws also bring clearer rules and better player safety. Let’s walk through the details.

Understanding Finland’s Evolving Gambling Market and Wildz Group’s Role

Wildz Group runs big-name online casinos like Wildz, Caxino, Chipz, Spinz, and Wheelz. Each has its own distinct style. The new licence is held at a group level, so these brands are expected to operate under it. But the company hasn’t revealed which specific sites will launch in Finland. They might bring all five, or start with just one or two. Players will have to wait for an official update.

Now for a little history. Finland ran a strict state monopoly for years. Veikkaus was the only company allowed to market gambling to Finnish residents. Offshore sites still accepted local players under overseas licenses, mainly from Malta. But offshore brands couldn’t legally target Finnish players directly, including ads in Finnish. That left everyone in a murky spot.

Players had plenty of options, but lacked the strong protections of local law. And the new licensing system changes everything. Offshore brands can now apply for a Finnish license. Those that win one can operate openly. They’ll be allowed to market to Finns while facing regulatory oversight. This gives players a clear way to spot legal brands and benefit from built-in player protections.

The New Regulatory Framework: Finnish Gambling Act 10/2026

These changes come from Finland’s new Gambling Act (rahapelilaki 10/2026). Starting July 1, 2027, the law sets tough standards for operators and gives players clear safety tools. A few updates feel strict, but very helpful. The main goal is keeping play safe.

Enhanced Player Protection and Responsible Gaming Measures

Licensed Finnish sites will no longer allow anonymous gambling. Under §28, players must register and verify their identity. Every user gets a traceable profile. This requirement helps operators offer responsible gambling tools like limit setting, which anonymous play prevents.

Deposit limits are also mandatory. Under §30, players must set daily and monthly deposit limits at registration or before making their first deposit. Lowering a limit applies right away. Raising a limit takes time. Daily limit raises take effect the next day. Monthly raises start next month. That cooling-off period stops quick decisions, so players stay in control.

The law also adds handy blocking tools under §29. You can use a self-exclusion block through the regulator or restrict game types with individual operators. You can also use an instant block option that pauses access until the end of the next day. This lets you pause quickly when needed. And for longer-term protection, an indefinite block lasts at least one year. But lifting it requires a three-month process.

Lastly, the government can set daily, monthly, and yearly loss limits for online casino games by decree. The limits that apply will depend on the relevant regulations.

Financial Implications for Players and Market Supervision

Now for the part most players care about. Under income tax law 15/2026, winnings from Finnish-licensed games are tax-free. This means you keep what you win. Just always remember to check if an operator holds a valid Finnish license. For more information, read our Finland tax article for the full breakdown.

Oversight will also get a lot easier to spot. A brand-new authority will keep an eye on everything happening in the market. Lupa- ja valvontavirasto will officially open its doors on July 1, 2027. And under §59, the authority must publish a public list of licence holders.

Lupa- ja valvontavirasto will monitor active casinos and enforce strict rules across the board. You can verify any gambling site before you deposit. There’s no guessing game anymore, and no reason to trust random footer logos. Just search the official register. If the site is missing, you simply walk away. Checking a site used to be tough in the old grey area, but now safety is built right in.

Who Else Is Vying for a Finnish Licence?

Wildz Group isn’t alone. Finland received 75 license applications by September 22, 2026. Each application carried a €29,000 processing fee. That number surprised many, since Finland only has about 5.6 million residents. Even so, dozens of companies want in on the action.

Applications opened in March 2026, and there’s no cap on how many licenses can be handed out. Veikkaus has also applied. The former monopoly is looking for a license for the open part of the market. Veikkaus will keep sole rights in some areas. But online, the company must face private competitors.

More competition should give players plenty of options. Companies will have to fight for attention on games, fast payments, customer support, and ease of use. More choice should mean better service. Some operators might even roll out fresh ideas or improved tools for safer play.

Not every applicant will get a licence. Players should watch the official list to see who makes the cut. Wildz claims to be first in line, and others will likely follow shortly.

An Important Note Regarding Official Confirmation

Disclaimer: This is Wildz Group’s own announcement. As of publication, the National Police Board (Poliisihallitus), which runs the application process, has not confirmed this or any other licence decision. The official list of licence holders will come from Lupa- ja valvontavirasto.

Why mention this? Because trust matters. Companies can share big updates all day long, but an official regulatory body must verify the details. Until that step is done, treat any statement as a claim rather than a solid fact.

Always check the official list before depositing anywhere. Wait until Lupa- ja valvontavirasto publishes its verified lineup, then confirm the casino is on it. Double-checking those details adds credibility and keeps everyone honest.

The Future Landscape for Finnish Online Gambling

To wrap things up, Wildz Group claims to have bagged the very first Finnish license. If officials confirm the news, Finns will see a familiar brand operating out in the open starting July 1, 2027. That means the group can finally reach players directly in their native language.

There is a much bigger picture here beyond just one brand. This new law brings in registered play, deposit limits, blocking tools, tax-free winnings, and a public directory of licenses. Together, these updates make the entire market safer for everyone. Players get more control. Regulators get more oversight. Operators follow the same rules.

From July 2027 onward, Finland’s online casino industry could look very different. More brands will compete in the open market. Checking who actually has a Finnish license will be easy with the public register. Until then, it’s best to hold off and wait for official news.
