Vietnam Cracks Down on SEO Company Fuelling Illegal Online Gambling

Hanoi authorities are taking a serious stance against illegal online gambling operations, recently launching a criminal investigation into a local SEO company. The company, Super Thi Seo Media Services Co., Ltd., and its CEO, along with 17 employees, are accused of helping unlicensed gambling websites gain visibility and reach players. This case is a stark reminder for consumers about the risks associated with unlicensed platforms. While these sites might seem accessible, the underlying operations can be far from legitimate, and authorities are increasingly targeting the support structures that enable them.

How the Company Allegedly Operated

Even though the company presented itself as a legitimate digital marketing and search engine optimisation firm, investigators claim its main focus was boosting illegal gambling sites. It appears to have been a well-structured operation with dedicated departments for marketing, SEO, IT, customer service, and backlinking, all working in tandem to make these unlicensed sites more discoverable. The CEO, Pham Ngoc Manh, is reportedly linked to 41 electronic wallets used for receiving cryptocurrency payments. To further obscure transactions, employee salaries were allegedly paid in cash, making it harder for authorities to track financial flows.

Seized Assets and Estimated Earnings

During searches, authorities seized a significant amount of cash and assets, including over VND7 billion (roughly US$268,000) in cash, cryptocurrency conversions, a substantial savings account, multiple computers, and mobile phones. The investigation suggests that from early 2026 until the crackdown, the company generated approximately VND3.7 billion (about US$142,000) by promoting 22 unlicensed Vietnamese-language gambling websites. This aggressive enforcement highlights how seriously authorities are treating the promotion of illegal gambling. Travel restrictions have also been placed on 15 other individuals connected to the case as the investigation unfolds.
